Why don't you come up with something interesting to discuss. I'm going through contract negotiations with Big Fan. So until that is resolved I will not provide any interesting subjects. LOL |

The board has been a little slow lately. I just think it's a reflection of where we're at sports wise. There just isn't a helluva lot to talk about. The Bulls suck, the Hawks are an afterthought, and college hoops is down (good game Illini). I would imagine things will pick up soon with spring training and March madness around the corner. Thank goodness cooler has ressurected the sports babes section. |

Wow, this thread this going to live in infamy, it's the Citizen Kane of posts. Instead of bitching, why not bring something to the table? If everyone else sucks, it should be pretty easy to start a great thread, right? |

Excellent work, people! Ok, I guess I now have something to comment on (even though it has nothing at all to do with "Other WSCR'S & ESPN'S - sorry): Dee brown and James Augustine of the Illini have ZERO future in the NBA, and The Illini will be a second-round exit this March. It hurts me to say this, but Dee CANNOT run an offense, create his own shot, or finish near the basket. Augustine has NO POWER MOVE and has SERIOUS routine brain farts under pressure (leading to incessant traveling calls and foul-mania). I also thought that James would be at least TEN TO FIFTEEN pounds heavier this season, but it LOOKS like he has LOST weight instead (even though the official word is that he gained). Dee will be a great point guard in GREECE, and Augustine will be ITALY's best pro big-man. And it is all a damn shame. I am an alum, and I have been TOTALLY on the jock of this team since my matriculation nearly a dozen years ago, but with last year causing such a rise in expectations, the encore season has become nothing more than a pathetic mess. Isn't there ANYONE who can drive to the godddamn hole or use some moves to get open for ANY SHOT OTHER THAN A 35-footer? Maybe its just me, but I watch a LOT of pro and college Basketball, and I couldn't help but think that during the Penn State game it sure looked a whole hell of a lot like they were playing AGAINST THE SPREAD (which was -20) instead of against PSU. Just "hoisting-up" threes ALL DAY like it was me on NBA LIVE or something. When I was at school there there were always rumors of certain players (I will not name any) laying bets - who knows? |

On second thought, go back to bitching about our contibutions. Your first contribute sucks. Believe it or not the Illini our exceeding expectations this year despite the recent slump. They lost 2 stars from last years team. You heard it here first; the Illini will still win the big ten this year. They are only one back in the lost column with 3 games to play. |

Kiss my ass, you Hater McGees! I may be exaggerating a bit about Dee and James' futures (for effect - they will both probably have respective cups of coffee in The League), but I'm not bulshitting - I would not genuinely rip my team like this if I did not have such strong feelings that I believe are based on adequate perception and good information. I watched and listened to EVERYTHING Illini, especially the past calendar year, and Bruce Weber EXPLICITLY said, towards the end of last year, that all of that bombing threes bullshit would be up the next year and that the game he really wants to employ is a low-post game concentrated CLOSE to the basket with bigs. They are so far from that it is not even funny. Expectations HAVE RISEN, and to be an PERENNIAL elite program, which class they are flirting with joining, NOTHING BUT THE BEST is expected. Coaching lost the Penn State and Indiana games. BOMBING THREES lost the Iowa and Today's (Ohio State) game. There is no excuse for a complacent attitude when you are SO CLOSE as a program. |

nastradamus wrote: No one thought they would be this good with what they lost last year. I would say this is a really good encore season. Will they go far in the tournament? I doubt it. A top ten ranking with the team they have is very good job all around. I would tend to agree with this - they are still a good defensive club, but they don't have dependable offensive options that are consistent from game to game. Dee Brown has been bad on the road, and I believe shoots in the upper 30% overall, Augustine is in foul trouble too much to be reliable as a 2nd option, and after that they have a bunch of players who can have a good game and pick up some of the scoring slack, but too often don't, putting way too much on Dee Brown's shoulders. Still, they do have 1 good post player in Agustine, and one streaky player in Brown who can carry a team at times, and, as I said, are a good defensive club - if they get favorable matchups, they could be a Sweet 16 team - at best. |

Just because Brown and Augustine may not be career NBA players doesn't mean that they can't be very good college players. Augustine is an excellent role player, and probably a 3rd scoring option on a top team. Brown is a great sparkplug player, a little too up and down to make me feel comfortable turning to him for 20 points a night. Saying that, they are good college players - they just need more help than they're getting from their teammates on a consistent basis. I think if a 3rd option offensively can develop, that will make Brown (especially) and Augustine more effective. |

The Illini lost 5 of their top 7 players this year. I think a majority of the season spent in the top 10 is a phenomenal job. |

Keep givin' 'em props - and they'll keep losing. All that team needs is a reckless, hole-chasin' (in a basketball-sense), free-throw-makin, layup finishin' player and they would be TOP THREE! Bruce Weber is STILL COACHING LAST YEAR'S TEAM THIS YEAR. |

I am a born-and-raised SoSider, but I personally have witness COUNTLESS conversions within the past four months. I now have lived on the NW side for four years due to my Polish-American-supermodel wife (not trying to degrade you, honey!), and recently, while riding the Blue line, I noticed - WHERE ARE ALL OF THE 'CUBS' HATS? They're gone. . . They're ALL GONE!!! (Yeeeee-ESSSSSS!) But I ROUTINELY see White Sox garb. I am not joking - I used to see Flubs stuff day-in and day-out - now NOTHING. VICTORY IS OURS! P.S.: I asked, but the wife sez I cannot post pics of her due to her government job (a girl got fired there recently and they SHUT IT DOWN on everybody). |

I look at this Illini season as gravy. Brown's only there because he broke his foot. Imagine the season we'd be enjoying had he left. I think a team might take a flyer on Dee with a late second round pick. If not, I think someone will sign him as a free agent. Whether or not he makes a squad is a different story. |
