Note: Please do not turn this into a gas vs. charcoal debate. I want a gas grill for convenience. I may end up buying a smoker grill that can be used for that later.

I am in the market for a new grill because a 10 cent piece of plastic broke and it was going to be $109 just to get a guy to look at it. I only paid like $200 for the grill so I'd rather buy a new one.

Any recommendations? It seems like the Weber grills are the best, but obviously the most expensive. Is it worth the extra price for the durability? What is the deal with the warranty? The review I read said that it's like a 10 year warranty on parts. What is the catch?

What I need is pretty standard. 3 or 4 burners. A top rack for indirect heating. A side burner is fine but I ended up using it more as a shelf.

Any advice on brands, types, stores is appreciated.

I have a 4 burner Char Broil I got a Lowes a few years back. Comes with a side burner. It's lived in the elements for almost 6 years now and still starts like a champ. The burners click start at the knob as opposed to a push button start (I've noticed those don't tend to last as long).

The only time I had something go out, it was the regulator, which is an easy fix with a wrench and a $10 replacement part, that you can get at Lowes and Home Depot.

I think it was about $200 retail, but given that it's Labor Day weekend, you can probably get one on sale somewhere.

Weber Genesis grill series. I have one that is about 20 years old and still kicking. My sister has the same one that is also about 20 years old.

The word is also that Propane gas is better for cooking than the LP from the house, I am sure you can google it up as to why.

I actually had an LP Hookup, I modified to a Propane hookup, with more pressure in the tank and the larger hose for the LP, I end up with an extra hot grill if necessary. Can use it to make pizza when you are cooking around 600-700 degrees.

When I slow cook, I only use one burner on low for chicken to make sure it is cooked through, then crank it up for the last 5 minutes.

I also have a Char-Broil, stainless steel commercial model. Has worked very well since new. I have found the stainless not so easy to kep clean, and stronger cleaners tend to streak the painted areas, but it does cook well, especially now that my son is doing most of the grilling

I have a Weber Spririt Series Grill which is the bottom of their line of gas grills but have been really
happy with it. Pretty sure they sell these at Lowe's now, I am sure you can find a locator on their
website where they are sold. Probably run in the high 400s but that is just a guess.

I have the older model of this one from Vermont Castings. I've had it for 5 or 6 years and never had a problem.

Pretty basic 3-burner but nice and heavy, very solid. It's not huge if you are often entertaining a lot people. But for a good, reliable grill it's been great for grilling for 5-10 people which is my usual crowd.

No side burner but it does have the upper rack.

BRick- if you are looking to cook for a group at all, I picked up a great tailgating grill for our football/soccer/baseball concession stand at my kids school- 8 burners, two tanks and a grilling area like two feet by five feet. Paid about $300 at Sams Club. Not easily portable without a pickup truck and two guys, but I can cook 30-40 burgers and 30 dogs etc all at once!!

I bought this one a few weeks ago and so far it fits my needs perfectly.

Easy to assemble, sturdy, cooks evenly and heats up very fast. You can pay extra for the cast iron grates but when I was there they were out of stock. For the price point I highly recommend it.

I used to have a nice Weber stainless model, ceramic burners, etc. It was real nice, but it didn't hold up any better than any other brand. (I use mine a lot, all year round, so it gets pretty rough treatment).
This summer I got a Char-Griller dual-grill. It is 2 grills in one - one side gas, one side charcoal. It was cheaper than what I had before, and I get the best of both worlds. Got it at Lowe's.

I ended up with about 2 yrs worth of napkins and a few bottles of condiments but no tongs.
I also have a half gallon of charcoal fluid so if whoever that belonged to wants it back I'll try
to hold onto it for the next event.

Depending on how many people you are grilling for, the Weber Q is an excellent grill. It comes with a coated cast iron grate which provides great searing and even cooking, and thanks to its smaller size, it doesn't run through propane tanks nearly as fast as bigger grills (though I would recommend getting the accessory hose that you can hook up to standard 20 lb. tanks).

I'll hold onto it for a while, I am pretty sure that was the last time I'll be using that grill. I don't have enough
room in my storage unit to try to keep it. Someone may be getting a nice gift from me sitting out on the

We bought a four burner (plus one on the side) CharBroil last November from Lowe's for $239. I have yet to see one reason why I should spend $800 on the same grill made by Weber. Some people like paying for a name, I guess.

I had one of those in the past. If you are a heavy user (like me) give it another year or two - you'll see why. They deteriorate quickly.

I have the middle of the line Weber Genesis Grill that has performed well over the last 4 years. I use it all winter (3-4 times a week) and probably 5-6 times during the week in the summer. Never had anything go out etc. The one thing I do regret is paying the extra for a side burner. I never use it and it just adds size to the unit.

So I never got around to actually buying a new grill and just used my weber baby q.

What do you guys think about this? I know it's charcoal but it seems to be just as easy as propane which is obviously the best thing about propane. I also have a baby q that I can use for a quick fix too.

Pretty sure my buddy has this very model and he seems to like it a lot. Nothing wrong with charcoal
grilling. Sometimes it isn't as convenient but usually isn't that big a deal. I guess what I am saying is
that it is a real nice grill.
