Can you re-post this as a rap?

They call me the Hair, and I got something to say,
About the state of cities in the USA.
A mult named Megan was born in the burbs,
That place sings the blues I hope you heard.

A guy named Jorr decides if you’re from Chi town,
Why would we accept the thoughts of this clown?
I come from Wisconsin and will weigh in,
That you’re from the city if livin’ in Berwyn.

I say a B.I.G. verse--I'm only biggin' up my brother.

Do you think there's any difference between being from Evanston and being from Huntley?

Yes. And neither are Chicagoans.

Good thing I never said that. I said they occupied a space between city and suburbia-qua-suburbia and everyone lost their minds because I made an analogy to cities that border Boston.

It’d be like saying you’re from Waco when you’re really from Bellmead.

It hits home a bit as a FIB. I have finally resorted to saying I grew up in suburban Chicago. It is useless to say Schaumburg because so few people up here know that place.

In any case, my former and now current girlfriend and I were sitting at the bar at Spot in the Woods. I am talking to a retired firefighter who has the stereotypical south side accent. She says to the guy, “he’s from Chicago too”. The firefighter goes, “oh yeah, what neighborhood?” When she says Schaumburg, he laughs and says that’s not Chicago. I had warned her about that little hard on Chicagoans have for the burbs.

My point- I am from Chicago to anyone that did not grow up in Chicago.

I don't care if you say you're from Chicago. That was something that Reader used to get all jacked up about.

Of course if you're in Europe or California and someone asks where you're from, you're going to say Chicago, because who the fuck knows what Schaumburg is.

I guess I do take issue with people from Naperville who call Wicker Park or Lakeview "downtown."

But to CH's point, I've lived on the north side and south side of Howard Street at various times. I don't think I was any less of a Chicagoan when I was living a block north. My experience was the same as the guy who lived across Howard. And it's a different experience than growing up in Wilmette or Hoffman Estates.

Lol. Reader even got pissed about the word Chicagoland. I have always found the entire discussion pointless and yet here I am talking about it.

I am well aware growing up in Hoffman and Schaumburg is different than my dad’s who grew up a few blocks from Wrigley. But I wear Chicago sports stuff pretty much every day, have worked and still have an office downtown, went to UIC, and ride the L system every time I am in town. So it makes me chuckle that folks like Reader would get worked up when I tell folks I am from Chicago.

You and I know the difference between me and you. But the funny thing is, we all have a lot more in common culturally than we probably care to admit.

I'm old enough to know Elgin, Aurora, and Joliet aren't suburbs.

If someone asks where I’m from I just tell them. Since it’s not Chicago, I don’t say Chicago.

At least we can all agree that no part of Indiana is part of the suburbs.

Every year we take our track team to meets in Central and Southern Illinois. Every year when people ask where we are from we just say near Chicago. Which is to also say others describe their schools as near St. Louis, Peoria, Champaign, Springfield or Bloomington.

Pick a random other city and contextualize your answer based on its surrounding municipalities.

Do you have any idea what you’re in for, Boyo?

Would you be willing to create a mult to plant false accusations on a poster you knew to be guilty, in order to ensure a banishment?

Would you be willing to harass a confession out of a board member you knew to be guilty, in order to offset the chance of some board admin getting involved?

Let’s face the facts here Maggie. Stay being a lurker. You have the eye for human weakness, but not the stomach!

What bugs me is when people say "the city". My response is always, "oh, New York?"
