You are spot on RPB. Hanley's understanding of sports is pretty simple, and he reminds me of a lot of old folks I talk sports with. I'm sure there is an audience for that, but I don't care for it myself.
And yes, his zingers are brutal. BRUTAL. Harry is funnier.
Moreover, the thing I noticed lately is that both of them are really fucking bad at interviewing people. The questions are sooooo drawn out, have multiple questions contained inside the rant, and often end without an actual question. Mully typically can lead the interviews, but when Hanley steps in, it's immediately a bad question. And what I hate more, is Mully will be asking a question, and Hanley will talk over him, try to add to it... OR, intercept the question, answer it a little, change it, and then leave it to the interviewee to respond. It's insane.
Agreed. Obviously Mully isnt perfect either. He does get a little Coppock-esque with his questions but next to Hanley he sounds great.
And the intercept change is a good thought. He does that all the time...
Like if theyre interviewing a Cub reporter or coach...
Mulligan: Well ya know he's got a boatload of talent but, with the way this Castro doesnt pay attention, and Bobby Valentine critiquing him, what do you do when...
Hanley: BOBBY VALENTINE NEVER WON ANYTHING IN THE STATES. BOBBY VALENTINE won in japan. Any good Japanese SS on the horizon who pay attention?
Cub reporter: Um...
