I had a gitchy feeling about it at the time. I think Hahn fell in love with Davidson for some damn reason, AZ didn't really want to deal him, but counter-offered a crazy price and Hahn said OK.

I wouldn't be surprised if July 18th passes and Rodon isn't signed. Why would Rodon want to join a sinking ship? I wouldn't trust my career with the Sox minor league instruction or a washed up alcholoic Don Cooper. Boras likely is whispering in his ear to re-enter next year and join a professional franchise instead of the mickey mouse operatoin on the south side.

That scenario is not gonna happen. JR refusing to give in to Boras I could see, however.

It should be interesting. Hahn's strategy was to sign all of the other picks first so that there was no wiggle room with the amount they could offer Rodon. This was a ballsy move considering Boras represented Appel who was in a similar situation a few years ago and decided to go back to school.

In the end, I think Rodon does sign. But it will be on the last possible day which will more than likely mean Rodon will not see the big leagues this season.

In reality Hahn has plenty of wiggle room as he could promise to bring up Rodon within a certain timeframe, the value of which would far outweigh the million or so they are quibbling over. Maybe that's what Boras is fighting for.

Appel was drafted 8th. Rodon was drafted 3rd. How much is he going to improve his situation by going back to college? The highest paid guy in this year's draft got $6.5M. I hear the Sox offer is $6M. Even Bora$ isn't greedy and dumb enough to send him back to college over $500k. He'll sign.

I agree with keyser but I think Boras is holding out for $6,582,585 which is the max the Sox can offer with only a financial penalty. I am sure the Sox offer is the $6,107,100 that they can pay witout ANY penalty.

Boras wants Jerry to pay for HIS new draft pool limits that went into effect with the new CBA.

On this weekends South Side Sox podcast Jim Callis from MLB Pipeline said

"There are three numbers are in play:

1) $5,721,500 is the slot value,

2) $6,107,100 is the amount the White Sox can offer without paying a draft tax.

3) $6,582,585 is the amount they can go up to without losing a 1st round pick, but have to pay the draft tax, of $375,000."

He also said he thinks the Sox do not want to go over $6,104,000 as they have never paid a fine under the new rules.

He also thinks Boras wants Rodon to be the highest paid player drafted which would be higher than the $6,500,000 that number one pick Brady Aieken signed for.

He said he expected Rodon to sign.

He thought he would not go back to college IF he didn't sign he would play independent ball where his innings and appearances could be monitored

This years deadline is July 18th.
