So I have heard so many of you rave about The Wire, so I am finally watching it. I am about halfway through season 1. Struggled getting through the first couple episodes, but now starting to get into it.

I have a couple questions for you fans...

So Avon and Omar are rivals? Is there some backstory about them? Is Omar another drug dealer or a former drug dealer?

I am sure I am forgetting something and I will probably have more questions along the way, but this will get us started.

I think Omar is just a free-lancer Robin Hood.

I don't recall any personal beef with Avon. It is just Omar being Omar.

Dont spoil it for him. Don't answer any more questions. It's for his own good. Think of when you watched it week to week. That's half the show right there, thinking about it and trying to figure it out and the suspense of what's next to come.

If you continue to answer his questions, then there should just be a new thread created for season 2 episode 1.

Seemed like a harmless question.

Agreed.

Yeah, Omar and Avon aren't rivals. 312 summed up their relationship nicely.

Lester is probably the best.

Too hard to choose. "...and all the pieces matter." is obviously one of the best and probably most famous phrase of the series, but Bunk is more entertaining. That drunken night where he sets his clothes on fire is probably in my top 5 scenes from the whole series.

Best part is where Adebesi gets stabbed to death.

I had a hard time watching Stabler on Law & Order: SVU after watching The Wire.

People will tell you otherwise, but the last season isn't very good. Go in with low expectations and it's ok but it's far worse than any of the other seasons.

The show really goes downhill when McNulty quits the force to go to clown school.

Omar and Avon disagree on whether or not Avon should keep all the money from the drug dealing.

Fun fact, but The Wire takes place in the same fictional universe as SVU. We know this as Munch (who originated in David Simon's "Homicide") gets a small cameo in the final season.

Munch was also in The X-Files and Arrested Development.
