Today was the first time I had to PTFB. First McKnight is outraged of the Pope being critical of Ramsey. I think he said "the hell with him" 5 times. Then, he is so angry about that Marlins pitcher hitting Acuna. Feigned outrage.

Just listened to Mcknight and Berns read a text from a listener explaining how the Bears acquired Wims and after listening to Mcknight's manufactured exuberant and earnest response towards the texter I can no longer stomach him, he is a total jive-ass douche.

McKnight looks like a 20 year old hipster trying so hard. Turned on today and he was saying something about never stopping at a Steak N Shake when traveling south or something like that. Ummm, they are all over Chicagoland, Rosemont, Evanston, Glenview, Downers Grove, etc. and have been for sometime.

Failure, has never been to one. Guessing trying to pull Dan's shtick of not knowing who Rick Flair is, etc. or "to good" for the common folk, but its almost impossible to not know there is not a Steak n Shake in Chicago area.

I watched The End of the Tour this weekend.

It got me to thinking about David Foster Wallace and his announcement that he was a Score listener. I have a distinct feeling that Dan began his "smarter listener" transformation of the Score when he learned that Wallace was out there in listenerland. We see how he conducts an interview when it is a subject that he wants to impress. Why would the same not be true on a much more macro level for a listener he wants to impress? However, it seems to me that as the Score became much more self consciously "smarter", Wallace would be less likely to continue to listen. In fact, the Score search resulting in hiring Conor Mc Doink is probably what put Wallace into an early grave

Also, I would like to reiterate how much I hate Jesse Eisenberg.

The film is an Eisenberg as asshole tour de force in the very opening scene when he scoffs that Wallace teaches at "some small state school" in an all too familiar "if it's not New York, it's crap" attitude. Meanwhile the school has 20K students and is in close proximity to where Wallace was raised. Fuck you Jesse Eisenberg and fuck you Jesse Eisenberg's character I have never heard of.

In his 9/11 essay, he mentions listening to a breakdown of a Bears game on WSCR (he was still living in Bloomington at the time). I didn't realize until later that the late-morning show then was Boers and Bernstein, and didn't really put it all together until the Mitchell Report came out, Selig said he didn't finish it, and Dan said "Selig started Infinite Jest and hasn't finished that one either."

The idea of Dan interviewing to impress DFW is a funny one, because at least half of DFW's attempts at casually interviewing people in his nonfiction (and we use the term loosely) seemed to consist of the other person getting weirded out by him and walking away.

I find the phrase "mythical female child" interesting. He talks a lot about his son, both on the air and on twitter, but almost never about his daughter. I think it speaks to a larger pattern with him where he doesn't deem women to be his equal or worth his time.

As I alluded to, Wallace's nonfiction is better fiction than his listed fiction, but enjoy nonetheless.
