im sure they will get rid of all of these in the upcoming CBA. These extra inning and 7 inn double headers were put in to account for Covid.

I dont hate the rule. I dont think much changes if the teams can field or throw. Dont bounce a ball off the base runners head, dont let the catcher reach in front of the batter to catch a pitch, have a pitcher that can catch a ground ball cleanly and not spike the throw home into the ground and the game continues until there are a few solid hits. To me the rule has exposed some horrible fielding and decision making by fielders.

I've been to two 14+ inning games, one at AAA years ago, and the second game of 2019 Cubs at Marlins where nobody could generate any offense. I understood the rule for 2020. For this year, I would have used it starting in the 13th (10th in a DH) and seen how it affected play. If it is used less than 10 times in a year in 2500 games each year, that seems like a reasonable compromise for pitcher safety. (I don't give a shit about game times)

This for me, I have never worried about a clock during a baseball game.

When Central games are starting at 7:15 and running past 10:30, that is where I have an issue. I would like most of those to end by 10:00.

Sure, everyone should pitch like Mark Buherle. But if a few games happen to go 14, so be it if they end at 11:00.

I would like to see the rule play out over a 162 game season. If it actually shortens the game, I'm all for it. Once the season has ended are any of us ever saying "Damn. I wish we had more regular season baseball"? 162 games of nine + inning baseball are more than enough.

Also, I don't see how the ghost runner scoring in the 10th inning takes away from the pitching duel. Both of the starters were out of the game by the 10th. The pitching duel had ended and it became just another bullpen game. Did seeing the runner score somehow make Giolito's and Bieber's starts less impressive or enjoyable?

Yeah I hate the rule in general, but it really sucks in a game like last night.

At the very least they need to play 3-4 innings of normal baseball before putting any runners on. But I wish the whole thing would go away

I'm in semi-agreement. But last night, a ghost runner, felt kinda dirty. Even if the roles were reversed and we got the 2 spot.

Bump.

Again, not saying this because the Sox lost (and deserved to, thanks asshole Leury), but to have a 0-0 pitcher's duel decided by this extra runner bullshit is just criminal. The game has survived 120 years with normal extra innings. This rule needs to go ASAP.

I don't believe it is going away, Managers and GM's seem to like it as you don't have to worry about the 15 and 16 inning games that burn thru pitching staffs.

It's a great rule. I think if there's anything the modern baseball fan can agree on, it's that they need to get these trash games over with ASAP.

yup. i am the biggest GET OFF MY LAWN baseball traditionalist but I can see the big picture here.

Guys like me are like 10 percent of the fanbase and we're dying off.

The 7 inn double header rule and the man on 2nd rule are very good to get the games to end ASAP. No regular person has time to sit thru 4 hours of this shit.

The regular fan will only be interested in the end of the game watching highlights or tuning in and the man on 2nd rule provides a quick and time saving end.

A shot clock is used in basketball. A pitch clock is what would be used in baseball.

Fucking worthless genius.

1. Baseball should have tie games and only have extra innings in the playoffs.
2. If they don't want ties they should go with their version of the shootout like hockey=Home run derby.
3. Pandemic ruined their in-person attendance and wokeness will continue to ruin their TV audience. They can try to fix the game, but they've already blown it.

I suppose the definition of a pitchers' duel is debatable, but to me it's always meant two starting pitchers going 8 or more innings and giving up one or fewer runs. The joy of the pitchers' duel is watching each starting pitcher maintain their dominance as they tire and as they make multiple trips through the line up.

In today's White Sox game, both Gray and Keuchel didn't come out for the 8th. Therefore, whatever pitchers' duel that was in progress, ended at that point.

If the game should be decided by ghost runners or multiple bullpen arms after the pitchers' duel is over, I don't really see the difference.
