I don’t think the article mentions what race he is. It’s moot anyway . White supremacy is a far bigger threat to our country than 11 yr olds sticking guns in people’s faces and taking their stuff .

Serious question, can a judge unilaterally decide to keep this kid ‘monitored’ or provide him (or her!) with resources/support?

I have long believed that there needs to be some reforms made when it comes to juvenile laws. They are much too lax.
Unfortunately in order for this to occur there needs to be a rethinking on the part of politicians and social Justice types. There is an existing belief regarding the "Innocence of Youth" that needs to change. Children are fallible too. They make mistakes yet the people involved in administering "punishment" rarely see it this way. There is a fear that incarceration will permanently scar the child thus they are reluctant to place them "into the system"

Yes, the justice system not being tough on middle school kids is one of the biggest problems in this city and country. People who just stopped believing in Santa Claus within the last few years should be put inside a cage.

Who is advocating for throwing in jail kids that aren't committing armed robberies?

Isn’t the point to come down on serious juvenile offenders hard? Just don’t do the BS charge them as adults for 30 years. Kick them at 18 or 21 after education and rehabilitation in a facility.

Also, these facilities where rehabilitation would take place have a horrible history of abuse.
