I'm not that much on canon since I don't remember much of it even if I did know it (which I probably didn't). I don't know if Romulans should be here and not there or a warp engine can't go that fast or a Klingon face should have a main ridge or not.

I just want some good stories. I was ready to hate The Next Generation but after a bad first year, that was an excellent show because it told interesting stories. Not because they were historically accurate in their made-up world.

Tell some good stories with some interesting characters and I will be satisfied.

The problem they have had with Voyager and Enterprise is that the characters were dull as hell. I didn't watch DS9 because I didn't like the setting, seemed boring. I think the franchise is dead but I'll still give it another shot. They are really running out of ideas though - having to go back to original characters because they can't think of anything new or good.

Ds9 IMO was the best done , even better than Kirk and the boys . Check it out , the last 2 seasons are incredible .I am going to rent to Enterprise and see if I can handle it . TNG was some reral good TV watching .

The thing with Star Trek today is that it lacks the grittiness and realism of a show like Battlestar Galactica which is an excellent show and has blown by anything Star Trek has done in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, I love all the Star Trek stuff but compared to shows like that it looks almost cartoonish in it's clean, utopian world.

Enterprise pretty much sucked except for the last year when they knew they were cancelled and they finally took some risks and did some excellent episodes I thought. Too little, too late though.

I used to love "The X-Files". "Fringe" is a poor attempt at imitating the *worst* episodes of "The X-Files".



I'm sure Abrams will find a way to make it too flashy and more about set design and everyone looking and acting like the old characters, but will TELL US that it's gonna blow us away with a thick storyline and really give us a great new way to look at "Star Trek".

I'm already not too pleased with them moving it back from this Christmas to next May.

"DS9" was the greatest "Star Trek" as far as a story arc; but "The Next Generation" was the most philosophical and the most brilliant in my opinion. The original "Star Trek" had moments of brilliance, but sort of got bogged down a bit by its insistence on Kirk always getting it on with an alien babe.

So true W_z .I am a huge nerd .What I have read and seen he is rewrtiing the basic history . The casting looks good John Chen as Sulu (Harold and Kumar) , Simon Pegg as Scotty( Shaun of the dead) . Plus Winona Ryder as Spocks mom . But they are basically doing a reboot and throwing everything done before out the door .I will go see it but the more and more I are having my expectations go down .
I am a huge fan of both DS9 and TNG . Only character in TNG that I really didn't like was Troy .I was a huge fan of Worf and Barcley . I loved the enitre cast of DS9 . The one thing I liked about TNG was the fact there where not a lot of throw away episodes . Most made you think in one way or another

Tallest midget as far as story arc. I don't remember too many good story arcs from the Star Trek series, mostly just some great single episodes and recurring characters.

The original Star Trek was all about Tiberius gettin' his freak on. I liked the "Roman Empire" episode where they had TV.

I don't think anybody liked the Troy character but she was pretty hot back then. I thought Geordi's character was pretty boring. Wesley was by far the worst which is why I thought it was funny that they made up some Traveler dude to actually take him out of our dimension.

Picard was the best combination of character and actor in the entire franchise. Patrick Stewart is a really great actor. That episode where they tortured him might be the best one of any of the series.

I liked Wes after season 1 . The plot with him at the academy wove though not only TNG but DS9 and Voyager.
Geordi was at best lame , some good episodes with him . Data was cool .
Really Picard /Stewart? I was a Riker man . I thought he should have been off with a ship of his own after Season 4 . He was way to good an officer .

Riker walked around like John Wayne's bastard child and Frakes' acting ability consisted of one bemused facial expression.

But, I liked that character too after he got fat with a beard and gave up on all his career ambitions.

Tonight's episode . Okay I am pissed and disgusted that they gave it all away tonight . No more mystery and now we know where he is .


Back to Frakes . Go back and watch him and his interaction with Picard . They are basically Kirk split into two .
I enjoyed him more than Picard if we went on just the main characters it would go Worf, Data , Riker, Wes ,Picard.

Now DS9 : Worf,Quark,Garak, Bashir,Kira(hottest trek babe ever)(well if you go one off then Kristy Alley )

i will be forever in love with kim cattrall as lieutenant valeris in "star trek vi: the undiscovered country"...and while we're on the subject of ranking star treks...i will now rank the "star trek" movies! this is only my opinion, so it means everything.

10. "Nemesis" - easily the worst. easily. not even easily, you cannot defend this movie. i won't have it!

9. "The Motion Picture" - missed opportunity. very boring picture, but had a few nice moments. but not exactly the way you want to start one of the most successful movie franchises in film history.

8. "Insurrection" - not exactly a great following act to one of the best ST movies of all time. couldn't they have found a plot for admiral q? this was like a rejected TNG episode that somehow found 2 hours of film time!

7. "The Final Frontier" - may be last place on many people's lists but with time, you can forgive the horrible pacing and the "row row row your boat" scene, because the end scenes with "god" are awesome! admit it! why is this at 7th? because it is there.

6. "Generations" - has nostalgic value to me, and it's the first script i ever read before seeing the movie because it was leaked on the internets...this was before the world wide web was leaking more shit than an 80 year old. there are some corny moments but overall, i thought it was enjoyable. i liked the merge of the two casts.

5. "The Voyage Home" - say what you want, this movie was a much needed departure from the heavy handed "search for spock", and it was a fun movie. also has nostalgic value for me--was the first movie my mom took me to and we've been going to every star trek movie ever since, along with other sci-fi movies. i know you're happy for me. anyway, seeing spock give an 80's punker the neck pinch is worth the price of admission.

4. "The Undiscovered Country" - this was basically reparations after "the final frontier". christopher plummer was priceless as the klingon general chang. yes, some of it was courtroom drama...IN SPPPAAAACCEE! but it was nicely paced and it was very well acted. very cool idea and it played out well.

3. "The Search for Spock" - the thickest of all ST movies, this one sometimes felt like a period piece more than a science fiction movie. but some great performances and the gravity of the death of kirk's son gave this movie more depth than the story probably needed. it's one of the classic ST movies. i'm sure sometime it'll be deemed "overrated" by newer ST fans, but i won't let that happen on my watch.

2. "First Contact" - waddya know, they recycled not only a plot from the TNG show, but the title, too! Still, this movie was charming and fun, and it was badass as well. i still remember seeing this in the theatre (with mom) and both of us just being blown away by this movie. was everything you wanted in an ST movie. plus data kicked ass.

1. "The Wrath of Khan" - was there any other choice here? this is the best of the best. ricardo montalban at his zenith. everything about this movie is great, even down to the new uniforms.

I agree with you except for Generations I would move it up a little . Come on Pikard and Kirk together .When He comes around and decides to save the universe , you knew what was coming more than Wrath of Khan

i do like "generations" and i guess my placing of it doesn't really show that...it's a toss up between that and "voyage home", and i liked TVH just a bit better. but when it comes to the middle, you can mix and match, and it's no big deal. it's really 8-10 and 3-1 that i'm most passionate about liking/disliking.

Back to Life on Mars , anyone watch it last night . If so what did you think of them giving it all away and taking the mystery out of it . I mean from now on what is the point of Sam trying anymore . He knows where he is at and what his fate is ?

I haven't had a chance to see it, but I thought this was a cop show set in 1973 New York, complete with the soundtrack from that year...Anyway, there's word that ABC plans on moving the rookie series from 9p Thursday to 8p Wednesday after the November "sweeps", with Kate Walsh & "Private Practice" taking over the "Mars" time slot following "Grey's Anatomy". An exact date has yet to be announced concerning the new day & time, but I bet ratings have been a disappointment...

Judging by the thread, I think chaspopcap and myself were the only ones watching at all, so that could explain the demotion of a prime time slot. It isn't the greatest show out there but it is better than most from what I can tell. You figure a couple dozen shows usually don't make it through the year. Hopefully this one sticks around a little longer but judging by your comments the writing could be on the wall if things don't pick up by the end of the season.

So I'm starting to get into this show and bamn, ABC tells me new episodes coming on January 28th. WTF.

I didn't see that HV. I DVR'd last nights show and haven't watched yet. As reported earlier by
Shark, this show appears to be moving to Wednesday nights as well. Maybe they will make that
switch when the new shows come back on. I am just glad they aren't cancelling it. I think the
show has some promise.

The "Grey's Anatomy" spinoff "Private Practice" starring Kate Walsh will start airing in the "Life On Mars" spot Thursday, December 11th @ 9p. According to E! Online's Kristin Dos Santos, that's only the beginning of the changes. While "Life on Mars" returns January 28th, Kristin says ABC has cancelled "Dirty Sexy Money", "Pushing Daisies" & "Eli Stone", plus new episodes of the NBC reject "Scrubs" debut January 6th @ 8p. Those three shows didn't draw many viewers, while "Mars" will follow "Lost", which debuts January 28th as well.

Scrubs survives. Nice.

There's a story behind the story with "Scrubs", and what really happened. To make a long story short, "Scrubs" was actually an ABC-produced show via Touchstone, a Disney subsidiary, and NBC bosses really left the comedy hanging for quite sometime. It seemed as if ABC was preparing to give the series a new lease on life on their network, but NBC was very reluctant to give the show away. The series always seemed to bounce around NBC's schedule...
